Beach Art by Jim Denevan

Bali Beach Travel Info

Jim Denevan (50), is an American sand artist, a surfer and a self-taught chef. He creates temporary land art. He works with natural materials to create massive scale drawings art in sand, sand at beach, ice, and soil. His sculptures are not placed in the landscape, rather, the landscape is the means of their creation. Often aerial photography or video is needed to comprehend the final work.

He made the drawing as the world's largest single artwork on March 2010. Denevan was commissioned by *The Anthropologist to create a large scale drawing on Lake Baikal. In March of 2010, Jim Denevan and his crew created a large scale artwork on the frozen surface of Lake Baikal, Siberia. The spiral of circles, along a fibonacci curve, grow from an origin of 18" to several miles in diameter. The project is currently featured on The Anthropologist and is the subject of an upcoming documentary directed by Meredith Danluck.
